about carol

My journey as a jewelry designer and artist is the result of a lifetime of fascination with color, textiles, and bold accessories. I have been a passionate knitter, seamstress and needle worker since I was seven years old. I am an equally passionate jewelry lover and I’m known for wearing bright and bold eyeglasses and jewelry.

After a long career as a business and human resources administrator in higher education, I decided to follow my heart. I took early retirement and began to explore the creative avenues I gave up earlier in my life. I discovered that I could combine my love of yarns and textiles with my love of jewelry to create one-of-a-kind art pieces.

I began by combing flea markets for beads and raiding the “broken jewelry stashes” of friends and family and stringing them on ribbons. Then I discovered that there was an entire industry of serious bead collecting from all over the world! I found many precious glass beads that I could combine with rich and vibrant color palettes of ribbons and cords.

My beaded jewelry is handmade almost exclusively from textiles and natural stringing materials. I use imported glass beads and crystals and some vintage beads. No two pieces are exactly the same although color palettes may be similar. I fashion unusual closures of imported buttons and beads. My style ranges from bohemian chic to bold and glitzy. These pieces look as good with jeans and a T-shirt as they do with eveningwear.

I want my jewelry to appeal to women who don’t want to look like everyone else. Women who want to stand out and have their jewelry speak for them. As a middle-aged woman, it has been important to me to fight the invisibility of creeping age. I believe one way to do that is to wear bold and colorful accessories. My designs speak to me and to the rest of the world, they say “out of my way, I am still here, look at me!” They are one-of-a-kind, unique pieces of art that won’t let you fade into the woodwork and will make you feel confident that you are beautiful and in the world!

My studio is located in northern New Jersey.
